Oakdale Cemetery - Grave of Nance Adams Martin.

The cross is over the grave of Nance Adams Martin, daughter of Silas and Margaret Martin, who died in Cardenas, Cuba, on May 25, 1857, at the age of 24. She was on a lengthy sea voyage with her father, who was a captain of a sailing vessel. After her death, her body was tied to a chair and sealed inside a barrel of spirits for preservation, until she could be brought home for a proper burial.
