Oakdale Cemetery - Prichard and Dickson Monuments

Monuments (on left) to the Rev. John Lamb Prichard (1811-1862), Pastor of First Baptist Church, and Dr. James H. Dickson (1807-1862), a physician. Both died of yellow fever during Wilmington's terrible epidemic in August/December, 1862, while ministering to the suffering and dying. The Rev. Prichard was the Pastor at First Baptist for seven years during the time when the present church edifice was projected and construction was begun.
